Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)

Application by Spouse: If your spouse is also an applicant for the PR visa, you may be eligible to receive an additional point or two on your Skill Select Expression of Interest. Your partner's performance needs to be up to the following standards in order for you both to receive these ten bonus points:

With increased budgets, Australia plans to increase the number of visas issued to parents and skilled workers.

The Australian government has plans to almost double the number of parent visas available in the near future. These plans are currently in the planning stages. The allotment of skilled workers will also see an increase in visas. Over the course of the next four years, the Department of Homeland Security (DHA) will be allocated a total of $576 for the processing of visas, the maintenance of the offshore processing center, and the support of refugees. The limit on the number of people who can enter the country legally has been increased from 160,000 to 195,000.

The number of skilled visas is going to go up from 79,600 to 142,400, and the number of parent visas is going to go up from 4,500 to 8,500. Over the course of the next four years, the humanitarian visa program will have 13,750 available places, and Afghan refugees will have 16,500 available places. There will be room for approximately 500 people on the other family visas, and there will also be space for 100 people on the special eligibility visas.

Restrictions on Professions Allowed in Invitational Rounds

There is a possibility that invitations for skilled regional (provisional) and independent visas could be subject to an "occupation ceiling." This would limit the number of people who could be granted these visas. indicating that there will be a limit placed on the maximum number of Expressions of Interest (EOIs) that can be requested for skilled migration from a particular group that is affiliated with a specific occupation. This ensures that the equilibrium of the skilled migration program is preserved and that it can continue to invite aspirant migrants who come from a wide variety of skilled occupations.

Ceiling standards for occupations are determined by a percentage of stock employment numbers for each occupation. Figures and an indication of the number of people employed in Australia in each profession are provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics Employment.
