The Best Way to Replay Videos on an iPhone or iPad

blog_banner_howtoipad1.jpg

Have you ever wanted to connect your iPhone, iPod, or iPad to your projector or display and have a video play in a never-ending loop? You can do all of that with AirPlay. This is a question that we have been asked on multiple occasions by customers who are interested in displaying a demonstration video, an advertisement, or some other type of promotional content that is presented in the form of a video. Although it's not too difficult to link up the device and start playing the video, making the looping effect work can be a challenge.

Recently, a group of our specialists in information technology got together and compiled a list of the guidelines and materials that are necessary in order to finish this project. Because it helped get one of our most recent customers up and running in their application, we thought it would be helpful to share the information with other people in case you're interested in doing something similar.

Whether it's Wired or Wireless

The first step in the process involves determining whether or not you will be connecting your device to the network using wires, or whether or not your connection will be wireless. You will be required to purchase the appropriate adapter cable from Apple in order to make wired connections. You can view each and every adapter that the Apple Store currently stocks on this page. Wired connections will always be more reliable than wireless ones, as well as less susceptible to interference and technical difficulties. Having said that, it's pretty cool to be able to get everything working without there being a tangled mess of wires and devices on display. Your best bet, therefore, will be the Apple TV if you are prepared to venture into the realm of wireless technology that is far and above. There are other options that could work, but you'll waste a lot more time and effort than it's worth trying to make them happen. Apple's products were built from the ground up to be compatible with the Apple TV, and they perform very well in this capacity. In addition, the price of makes it a very reasonable option. On this page of the Apple Store, you'll find a demonstration of the Apple TV. Your iOS device only needs to be connected to a functional WiFi network and a discrete HDMI cable that runs from the Apple TV to the display in order for you to do so. After that, you will go into the notification center on your iOS device and connect to the Apple TV using AirPlay. Once connected, you will enable the mirroring feature there as well.

Looping using the Slideshow app on iOS

After we have confirmed that the connection is active, the next step is to begin playing the video. The "Photos" application, which is preinstalled on each and every iOS device, is the first of two methods that we recommend for playing the video. The following is a rundown of the procedures you will need to complete in order to play the video in this manner:

  1. Find the video on the iOS device you're using. It will have been saved from an email, or it will have been copied using an iTunes sync.
  2. Make a new "Album" in your photo library, then add the video that you want to have play continuously inside of it.
  3. You can enable the "Repeat" option for the slideshow by going to the "Settings" app and selecting the "Photos" section from the drop-down menu.
  4. Return to the "Photos" app, navigate to the album that was just made, and then choose the video that you want to play from within that album.
  5. You'll find a button that looks like an arrow in the bottom-left corner of the screen. If you click that button, you'll be given the option to start the slideshow. (It is important to note that in order to view the slideshow option, you must first be inside the album.) If you simply access the video through the Camera Roll, you won't be able to see it. )
  6. Your video will now play in an endless loop unless you manually stop it.

The one and only drawback to this choice that we found was that each time the video was restarted, there was a brief appearance of an icon depicting an arrow pointing to play. This can be very distracting, so as soon as we became aware of it, we began searching for an alternative solution. We made the discovery that by utilizing a program developed by a third party, this problem was no longer present. Because of this, let's move on to the following part of the post.

Using the Video Loop Presenter provided by CWG for looping

The CWG Video Loop Presenter is a free application that can be downloaded from the App Store. It enables users to play videos in a loop without having to look at the play arrow icon, which is normally displayed briefly between each restart. The following is a rundown of everything you need to do in order to play the video in this manner:

  1. You can get "CWG's Video Loop Presenter" on your iOS device by downloading the app. (You can check out a preview of it on iTunes here. )
  2. Launch the application on your mobile device. On your home screen, it will appear as "vloop" and have a blue/green icon along with a "V" that has a circular arrow next to it.
  3. Choose the "Configure Video" option that's located in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  4. Click "Add" under "Media Library," then pick "Video from Camera Roll" from the drop-down menu that appears.
  5. Find the video on the iOS device you're using. It will have been saved from an email, or it will have been copied using an iTunes sync.
  6. Tap the text that says "Select Video to Loop" located under the "Configure Presentation" heading.
  7. Choose the video that you have most recently included in the Media Library.
  8. Make your selection under "Scale Mode" to get the effect you want. We recommend that you use "Aspect Fill," but if you want to avoid cropping, you should probably use "Aspect Fit."
  9. When you are finished, select "Show Home Screen" from the menu in the upper right corner.
  10. To begin playing your video, click the "Play" button located in the bottom left corner of the screen.
