Revamp Your Healthcare Access: Medicare Card Now Accessible Through myGov App!
The myGov app now enables users to add a virtual version of their Medicare card, providing them with a secure and accessible option on the go. The Hon. Bill Shorten MP, Minister for Government Services and the NDIS, explained that this new feature is designed to grant people more choices in utilizing government services, following the app’s success, which has now reached a million users. Many people use their physical Medicare cards regularly; thus, having them stored in the myGov wallet offers a safer and more convenient way to keep all their essential documents in one place. Additionally, Minister Shorten added that the app provides unparalleled security measures to protect against theft and fraudulent activities, such as the hologram and QR code features.
According to the Hon. Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health, this updated feature brings health benefits and harnesses the full potential of the Medicare card for Australians. Medicare is the most commonly linked service to myGov, accounting for over 19 million accounts. However, the benefits of digital health have not been prioritized sufficiently in the past, a mistake that the party of Medicare is keen to rectify, according to Minister Butler. The new feature presents a new level of convenience and will pave the way for more tools to be included in the app in the future. The Centrelink concession cards and the International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate are already available on the app since December. Minister Shorten disclosed that it is just the beginning, as NSW driver license will be included in the app later this year, among other credentials.
To add your Medicare card to your wallet, link your Medicare account to your app. Go to the Wallet on your home screen, select Add to wallet, and follow the instructions. People who choose not to embrace the new technology may continue using their physical Medicare cards. The government is encouraging health professionals to accept digital Medicare cards, although accepting them might take some time. Once added, the card can also be quickly accessed from the app's home screen.
