3. What is your federal identification number? Your tax file number (TFN) and the TFNs of any of your business associates are required in order to obtain your ABN through the online system in the quickest possible manner. This should be the date that you intend to begin operating your company or organization, and it cannot be more than six months in the future from the date that you submit your application.

After you have completed all of the necessary steps and sent in your application, you shouldn't have to wait too long to hear back from the organization. You will either receive an email notifying you that your application was approved, a reference number indicating that additional information or checking is required, or an email notifying you that your application was not accepted.

If you are given a reference number, it indicates that some of the information you provided is being reviewed, or that we require additional information from you.
