Telephone Voting Made Easy

Individuals who are visually impaired now have the opportunity to cast their votes securely via telephone, no matter their location.

The process of voting by telephone is straightforward and consists of two simple steps. Should you require any assistance throughout the process, our voting assistants from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) will be readily available to aid you.

Step 1: Registration via Call To exercise your vote by telephone, your first step is to register by dialing the toll-free number 1800 913 993.

Registration can be done on weekdays from 8:30am to 5:30pm AEDT, starting from Monday, November 27th, 2017, until Friday, December 15th, 2017. Moreover, registration will also be available on Saturday, December 16th, 2017, from 8am to 12pm AEDT.

During the registration process, you will be inquired about your details as they appear on the electoral roll, and you will be required to select a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Subsequently, you will receive a unique registration number for telephone voting via your preferred method of communication, be it through email, SMS, phone call, or postal mail.

Step 2: Voting via Call Once you have received your registration number and chosen your PIN, you will proceed to the second step—casting your vote via telephone.

Telephone voting services will begin on Tuesday, November 28th, 2017. The service will be accessible on weekdays from 8:30am to 5:30pm AEDT, as well as on Saturday, December 16th, 2017, from 8am to 6pm AEDT.

To cast your vote, use the provided number: 1800 913 993.

While making the call, please refrain from providing your name.

Ensure that you have your telephone voting registration number and chosen PIN ready beforehand. These numbers will enable you to vote confidentially and will be used to record your presence on the electoral roll.

One of our AEC voting assistants will accurately record your vote, while another will diligently ensure that your vote is accurately captured as per your intentions. They will not have access to your personal information, such as your name or address, thereby maintaining the secrecy of your vote.

As soon as your vote is successfully cast, the AEC voting assistant will place your ballot papers in secure ballot boxes.

You are permitted to cast your vote until Saturday, December 16th, 2017, 6pm AEDT.
