Here's how millions of Aussies can get their hands on some of that COVID-19 cash.

Services Australia, by way of Centrelink and MyGov, has been providing assistance to the tens of millions of Australians whose finances have been negatively impacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic through a number of different payments.

Payments are available for residents of Australia who are unable to work as a result of being required to remain in isolation as a result of a positive COVID-19 test.

There are payments available for people in Australia who are considered to be in a state of crisis due to their financial situation.

Additionally, Services Australia has been supplying other Centrelink payments to residents of Australia who are in need of continuous financial assistance.

The following is a breakdown of the available payments to Australians who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Services Australia is the source of this information, which has been provided by them.

The Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment is described below.

Because of COVID-19, Australians who need to self-isolate or quarantine, or who are providing care for someone who needs to self-isolate or quarantine, are eligible to receive the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment, which is a one-time cash payment.

Who has access to it?

You have been given the option to self-isolate or remain in quarantine due to one of the following possibilities:

  • you have COVID-19
  • You are considered to be a close contact of a person who is infected with COVID-19.
  • A child under the age of 16 who is in your care and who is considered to be a close contact of someone who has COVID-19
  • You are providing care for a patient who has COVID-19.
  • You are providing care for a person who is disabled or has a severe medical condition and who, due to their close contact with a person infected with COVID-19, is required to self-isolate or go into quarantine.

If you are considered an essential worker, you may be exempt from the requirement to isolate yourself. This means that you can continue working and will not be eligible for the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment. Check with the government of your state or territory to see if you are considered a necessary worker.

Check to see if you are a COVID-19 close contact by watching the video that has been provided below.

Explanation of the new COVID rules for close contact,

You are also required to fulfill all of the following conditions:

  • You must be at least 17 years old, and you must currently reside in Australia.
  • you are a permanent resident of Australia or you are in possession of a visa that allows you to work in that country.
  • During the time that you are required to spend in self-isolation, quarantine, or caring, you are doing so in Australia.
  • you were a resident of Australia at the time that your claim was submitted.
  • You are unable to work and have lost at least eight hours of work or a full day's worth of work over the course of a seven-day period of self-isolation, quarantine, or caring for another person.
  • You are not eligible for any paid time off due to illness, including sick leave during a pandemic, personal leave, or leave to care for another person.
  • You had liquid assets that were worth less than $10,000 on the first day of the period for which you are claiming eligibility.

What is the total amount of the payment?

Income tax will be withheld from the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment. This means that you will need to make sure that it is included in your income tax return for the appropriate fiscal year.

The amount you receive is proportional to the number of hours of work you were unable to perform.

You are eligible to receive the following rewards for each seven-day period of self-isolation, quarantine, or caring:

  • $450 if you were unable to work for at least eight hours or a full day, but for less than 20 hours total.
  • 0 if you were absent from work for at least 20 hours.

You will not be eligible for this payment if you lost fewer than eight hours of work or a full day's worth of work during the seven-day period of self-isolation, quarantine, or caring for another person.

The number of hours that you were scheduled to work or that you would typically work on a given day makes up a full day's worth of labor. This includes being unable to show up for a shift of less than eight hours, whether it be full time, part time, or casual.

If you are eligible for Family Assistance, which includes the Family Tax Benefit or a Child Care Subsidy, you are required to include the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment as taxable income in your family income estimate. This is the case even if you do not receive the Family Tax Benefit or the Child Care Subsidy.

If you are required to pay child support, the amount that you are required to pay must be included in any income estimate that you submit, as well as your adjusted taxable income for child support, if you have a child support assessment.

In what ways can you apply?

You are required to file a claim for the very first day of your caring or isolation period. If your period of isolation or caregiving lasts for more than seven days, you are eligible to submit a new claim.

You are required to file a claim no later than 14 calendar days after the beginning of each seven-day period of self-isolation, quarantine, or caring for another person.

If you are part of a couple, then both of you are eligible to receive this payment. Both you and your partner will be required to submit your claims individually.

In the event of a national health emergency, what exactly is the Crisis Payment (COVID-19)?

This is a one-time payment for people living in extreme financial hardship in Australia who are unable to leave their homes because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Who has access to it?

You must meet all of the following criteria in order to qualify for the COVID-19 emergency payment:

  • eligible to receive a payment under the Income Support Program or the Student Living Allowance
  • in extremely difficult financial circumstances
  • in self-imposed isolation or quarantine, or providing care for someone who is either of these, because you are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test or have been diagnosed with COVID-19

Along with your application for benefits, you are required to submit evidence demonstrating that you or the person for whom you are caring had either:

  • a PCR for the COVID-19 gene
  • a positive RAT result

You might be asked to provide proof that your financial situation is difficult.

What is the total amount of the payment?

You are limited to a maximum of two payments within a period of six months.

However, you are only eligible to receive one payment per period of self-isolation or quarantine.

It is equivalent to one week's pay at the maximum basic rate of your income support payment or ABSTUDY Living Allowance, whichever one you receive.

Other allowances and supplements are not included in this calculation.

In what ways can you apply?

You are required to provide proof in order to demonstrate that you are qualified to receive the payment, including the following items:

  • a message or document in the form of text that verifies the results of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) COVID-19 test
  • a piece of written communication or a document displaying the outcomes of a PCR COVID-19 test
  • a positive rapid antigen test (RAT) result
  • a message in text format or a document showing that you have reported a positive RAT result, as required in your state or territory

The PCR evidence is required to include the date, as well as the name of the person who conducted the test or issued the results. Take, as an illustration, the name of the medical or pathology center:

You are not permitted to submit any of the following items as evidence in order to receive this payment:

  • COVID-19 vaccination certificates
  • negative RAT results

It's possible that you'll be asked to provide proof that your current financial situation is extremely difficult. Evidence of the following is included in this:

  • cash that you already possess
  • money that you have stored away in a bank.
  • shares
  • bonds
  • gifts
  • other sources of funding that are open to you
