BB VIP is an Australian reality television series.
The reality television franchise Big Brother originated in the Netherlands, and the Australian version of the show is known as Big Brother Australia. The series was announced on the 30th of March, 2021, and Sonia Kruger serves as the host. [1] The first episode of the series debuted on November 1st, 2021. [2]
This season focuses on a group of twelve celebrities competing for a charitable donation of one hundred thousand dollars while they are forced to live together in a house with no access to the outside world. During their time in the house, they were under constant surveillance and were not permitted to engage in conversation with the people who were filming them. The emphasis will be placed on competition and gameplay, just like in the regular version of the game that is played in the civilian world. Now that the challenges have begun, the celebrity housemates will compete against one another for power and safety before casting their votes to evict one another. When there were only three contestants left in the house, the Australian public voted to determine who would win the competition and take home the grand prize for the charity of their choice.
History [ edit ]
In 2002, Network Ten aired the first celebrity edition of Big Brother, which was given the title Celebrity Big Brother. Dylan Lewis emerged victorious in that competition. Before the entire franchise was cancelled by the network in 2008, there were no more celebrity editions that were commissioned to be made. [3]
In 2011, it was officially announced that the Big Brother franchise would be brought back on air by Nine Network. [4] After the conclusion of the civilian season in 2014, rumors began to spread that Nine were considering bringing back the Celebrity Big Brother edition of the show for broadcast in 2015. These rumors were later confirmed by the show's host, Sonia Kruger. [5] As of July 2015, it was reported that the proposed revival of Celebrity Big Brother would not go forward because the fourth season of The Celebrity Apprentice Australia had been greenlit instead. In addition, it was stated that it was possible that something could take place the following year in 2016, but nothing ever came to fruition, and the season that aired in 2014 was the last season of the franchise to air on Nine. [6]
Format [ edit ]
The format of Big Brother VIP is the same as the format of the rebooted version of the series that debuted with the twelfth season of the series. This rebooted version of the series is similar to the format of the American and Canadian editions of Big Brother, in which the housemates decide who will be nominated for eviction and who will be evicted. The format places a strong emphasis on the competitive nature of making it through the elimination round. As a consequence of this, the housemates are allowed to plot, engage in political maneuvering, and confer with one another regarding nominations and evictions. However, there are still significant differences when compared to the format used in North America. The most notable of these differences is that there is no "Power of Veto" included as part of the format (a component that is essential to both the American and Canadian shows). and the decision of the ultimate victor being left up to the Australian public, rather than being made by a jury comprised of contestants who were ultimately eliminated from the competition. [7]
- A "Nomination Challenge" is held at the beginning of each round, during which the housemates compete against one another. The only person who can make nominations is the person who ends up winning the competition. The winner of the competition will be called into the Diary Room by Big Brother as soon as the competition concludes to name their nominees and provide full explanations for why they chose those particular housemates. The initial number of nominees in the game is three, but that number drops to two as the game progresses toward its conclusion. The number of nominees is determined by how far the housemates have progressed in the overall game.
- Eviction: On the night of the eviction, all of the housemates are required to vote to have one of the nominees evicted, with the exception of the housemate who made the nomination (who will only cast a vote to break a tie if one occurs). When there are only two nominees, the housemates who have been nominated to vote do not do so because their votes would cancel out those of the other nominee. The housemates cast their votes orally to Big Brother in the Diary Room, and they are required to provide an explanation for their vote in the eviction vote, which is conducted using a secret ballot. The house contestant who received the fewest votes is allowed to stay in the competition.
- Finale: The remaining housemates will compete in a vote to determine the winner, which will be held in Australia.
Teams [ edit ]
Caitlyn and Ellie earned the right to become a captain of one of the two teams that the house would be split into after successfully completing a covert mission that was given to them by Big Brother. the house would be divided into two teams. During this team phase of the game, the two teams competed against each other in the Nomination Challenge. The winning team received immunity for themselves, and the team captain was responsible for choosing who to nominate for eviction from the opposing team. The elimination of the second player brought an end to the team portion of the game.

Production [ edit ]
In anticipation of the series' official announcement in March of 2021 it was confirmed in December 2020 that the show was issued an eviction notice by NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service for the North Head site used as the location of the house for the previous two series of the civilian series over concerns for local wildlife due to concerns from increased traffic and attention to the site [23] In July of 2021, it was announced that the new Big Brother house, which would be used for the series, would be built in the White Pavilion at the Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush Bay. This news came about a year after the original announcement. [24]
The tenth season of Australia's Got Talent was pushed back due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions that came into effect in Sydney shortly before production was set to begin. In June 2021, it was confirmed that the series would be extended in some capacity as a result of the delay in the production of the tenth season of Australia's Got Talent. [25]
Filming began on the 30th of July 2021[26], and it lasted for a total of 22 days before it was finished on the 20th of August 2021. [27] Unlike the conclusion of previous seasons that have been shown on Seven, this one was not broadcast live but rather it was pre-recorded along with the rest of the season. Filming was done for each of the three possible outcomes, and the outcome that received the most votes from the general public in Australia was the one that was broadcast. [28]
Prior to the airing of the first season of Big Brother VIP, Seven made the announcement of a second season of the show during their 2022 Upfront presentation in October 2021. The second season was scheduled to begin airing in 2022. [29] Despite this, in February of 2022, it was announced that the series would "not be continuing." [30]
Controversy surrounding Katie Hopkins [ edit ]
In July 2021 Katie Hopkins, who was set to appear on the show after appearing on the fifteenth season of Celebrity Big Brother UK in 2015, made multiple posts on Instagram mocking several lockdown measures in place in Sydney, as well as stating she was intentionally not following rules in place [31] The controversial nature of Hopkins as a public figure, in addition to the number of Australians who were left stranded overseas as a result of state intake limits that were in place, was a contributing factor in the backlash that her entry into the country provoked. [32] Seven criticized the remarks that she had made and confirmed that she would no longer be a part of the series. [33] In the end, her visa was revoked, she was ordered to pay a fine of one thousand dollars, and she was also driven by police to Sydney Airport on July 19, 2021, where she was deported back to the UK. Hopkins was still paid her full appearance fee despite the fact that a pay-or-play clause was included in her contract. [34][35] [36]
Broadcasting on a global scale [ edit ]
TVNZ 2 and TVNZ OnDemand were the channels that carried the series in New Zealand; episodes were made available the day after they were shown in Australia. [37] The series was later aired in the United Kingdom (UK) on E4 beginning on February 6, 2022, under the localized title Celebrity Big Brother Australia. [38] However, it was removed from the schedule after airing only four episodes, but it continued to be released via the All 4 on-demand service. [39]
The history of the vote [ edit ]
This roommate was put forward as a candidate for eviction. In this particular round, this housemate served as the nominee for another housemate. A twist ensured that this housemate would not be eliminated during this particular round of voting. This housemate was part of the team that triumphed in the competition, so they are safe from eviction during this particular round. This housemate was not present in the Main House during this eviction round and was therefore not a candidate for elimination. This housemate was at one point put on the chopping block, but they were ultimately spared. Team PhaseThe housemates competed against one another in two separate teams for the first two rounds of the eviction process.
- The Jenner-ators, as they are known (denoted by ), led by Caitlyn
- The school of hard knocks, denoted by ) spearheaded by Ellie
The victorious team would be granted immunity from elimination, and the team captain would be given control over nominations. Danny, who joined the competition after the last team challenge, was not placed on either of the two remaining teams. Following the second elimination on Day 6, the game returned to its usual format, with the housemates competing against one another in individual competitions.

- ^ The first episode did not feature any eliminations.
- ^ While Omarosa was being kicked off the show, she paid a visit to new Housemate Danny in a hidden room to give him some advice before he started playing the game. On Day 6, after nominations had been made, Danny decided to join the competition.
- ^ Following the completion of the task at the VIP Museum, Big Brother informed the housemates that they had all been nominated for Instant Eviction. The housemates were required to make a collective decision in order to determine who would be eliminated next. The other housemates came to the consensus that Caitlyn should be the one to be immediately evicted.
- ^ Caitlyn was able to grant one of the Housemates immunity from being eliminated in the next round. Ellie was granted immunity as a result.
- ^ Luke won an Advantage Challenge - granting him the benefit of removing a nominee from consideration by secreting them away in the "Waste Room" during the Eviction Ceremony and vetoing their Nomination. Luke made the decision to conceal himself. As he was hidden, Luke did not vote Ellie and Bernard were the next contestants to be put up for eviction, but neither of them voted because their votes would have cancelled out those of the other contestant.
- ^ On Day 15, there was a Staged Double Elimination. A second vote was held between the two remaining nominees, Thomas and Dayne, after Ellie was eliminated from the competition. Thomas and Dayne chose not to cast ballots because their votes would have nullified those of the other candidates. Ellie and Dayne moved incognito to the Big Brother Gym after they were eliminated from the competition.
- ^ On Day 17, the Fake Evictees made their way back into the main house to take part in a competition against the Housemates who were still there. Someone from the losing group would be removed from the competition officially by the winning group. Dayne was eliminated from the Big Brother house after the other contestants triumphed.
- ^ There were two different Nomination Challenges, and the winner of each challenge was given the opportunity to put one of their fellow housemates up for eviction. The housemates competed against one another in three teams of two for the first challenge, which was won by Imogen and Jessika. Thomas, the first housemate to be put forward for nomination, was disqualified from taking part in the second challenge.
- ^ The person who came out on top in the Final Challenge was awarded a spot in the Top 3 and got to cast the deciding vote in the competition's finale. The remaining three housemates were put up for consideration for the Ultimate Eviction.
- ^ The top three competitors took part in a unique competition for the chance to win $10,000 for their respective charities. Luke won
- ^ The conclusion of Big Brother in Australia will determine who takes home the $100,000 grand prize and the Big Brother VIP title.
The ratings information comes from OzTAM and reflects the viewership from the five largest metropolitan areas in Australia, which are Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth and Adelaide.
