An Easy Recipe for Honey Joys, a Party Favorite

Honey Joys are bite-sized snacks that are both crunchy and sweet, and they have been an integral part of the culture of Australia for decades. They are incredibly simple to put together despite the fact that they contain Corn Flakes, honey, butter, and sugar.

  • There are only four components: corn flakes, honey, butter, and sugar.
  • A minimal amount of preparation is required, and the ingredients are those typically found in a kitchen pantry.
  • Great for packing in lunches – If there are any Honey Joys left over, they make a delicious and appreciative addition to any and all lunchboxes, and they are quickly consumed.  
  • You are able to give them a makeover. – By including some ones and tens in the mix, you can turn them into "Fairy Honey Joys." Depending on where you live, 100s and 1000s are also referred to as Sprinkles or Jimmies. These tiny little candy balls come in a variety of colors and can range from one hundred to one thousand.

  • Corn Flakes are a type of breakfast cereal that are made from sun-ripened corn that has been dried to a crisp golden color. It is manufactured by Kellogg's and can be purchased anywhere in the world.
  • Honey: Because the honey will impart its flavor as well as its sweetness, select a type of honey whose flavor you particularly enjoy. Honey will also make the dish sweeter. This classic recipe, which calls for honey, is by far the best option; however, if you need to accommodate specific dietary requirements, there are vegan recipes available that replace honey with rice malt syrup.
  • Butter — You can use either salted or unsalted butter in this recipe. It will work either way.
  • Caster Sugar – Also referred to as superfine sugar in certain regions of the world, this sugar is an important component of the glaze. Do not cut back on or omit the sugar because the glaze will not harden properly without it after it has been baked.

Instructions for Making Honey Joys

Get the Glaze Ready.

In a large bowl that is safe for use in the microwave, combine the honey, sugar, and butter.

In a microwave oven set to 50% power, dissolve the sugar in the melted butter by microwaving it for three to four minutes.

Cornflakes should be coated in the glaze by gently stirring them together.

Put the mixture into muffin tins that have been lined with paper cups and fill them up to two thirds of their capacity.

Bake for ten minutes in an oven that has been preheated.   

Honey Joys will have a hue that is just a hair darker, but they shouldn't be brown at all.

Keep It Chilled On A Wire Rack

On a wire rack, give the Honey Joys the opportunity to cool completely.

Despite how tempting it may be, you shouldn't bite into one too quickly. Even if the surface feels cold to the touch, the glaze can keep its heat for a considerable amount of time.

Is there anything that can be used in place of corn flakes?

Honey Joys rely heavily on corn flakes as a component, so my Chocolate Crackles might be a better choice for you if your diet cannot tolerate corn in any form. Corn flakes are an essential component of Honey Joys.

Why do I need to use sugar if I'm already going to use honey?

Once the Honey Joys have been baked, the sugar that is called for in this recipe is an essential component of the glaze that is used to hold them together. Without the addition of sugar, the recipe will not be successful.

Do I need to use paper cases at all times?

Indeed, this is a crucial factor for the accomplishment of the Honey Joys. The glaze is extremely sticky, and regardless of how well you grease the muffin tins, the cupcakes will still stick to the tins if the mixture is not placed inside of a paper case.

Method That Is Commonly Used

  • Set the fan-forced temperature of the oven to 150 degrees Celsius. Prepare two muffin tins with 12 holes each and line them with paper liners. Set aside until needed.
  • In order to make the glaze, mix the butter, sugar, and honey together in a large bowl that is safe for the microwave.
  • Melt the butter and sugar in a microwave oven set to 50% power for three to four minutes, stirring about once every thirty seconds, until the butter is melted and the sugar has mostly dissolved.
  • Corn Flakes should be mixed into the glaze in a gentle manner until they are evenly coated.
  • Put the batter into the prepared muffin tins using a spoon, filling each paper cup to about two-thirds of its capacity. (See notes)
  • Bake for ten minutes in an oven that has been preheated. The Honey Joys will have a shade that is ever-so-slightly darker, but they are not supposed to have a brown hue.
  • Honey Joys should be allowed to cool in their respective tins for approximately ten minutes before being moved to a wire rack to finish cooling.
  • Keep in the refrigerator for up to a week if stored in an airtight container. (See related notes)

The Method of the Thermomix

  • Set the fan-forced temperature of the oven to 150 degrees Celsius. Prepare two muffin tins with 12 holes each and line them with paper liners. Set aside until needed.
  • The bowl of the Thermomix should already contain the butter, sugar, and honey. Melt for 3 minutes, 90 degrees, Speed 2
  • After adding the Corn Flakes, mix for 10 seconds on REVERSE, speed 2, using the spatula (through the hole in the measuring cup) to assist with the mixing.
  • Put the batter into the prepared muffin tins using a spoon, filling each paper cup to about two-thirds of its capacity. (See notes)
  • Bake for ten minutes in an oven that has been preheated. The Honey Joys will have a shade that is ever-so-slightly darker, but they are not supposed to have a brown hue.
  • Honey Joys should be allowed to cool in their respective tins for approximately ten minutes before being moved to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Do not give in to the urge to lessen or eliminate it. Honey: Because the honey will impart its flavor as well as its sweetness, select a type of honey whose flavor you particularly enjoy. Honey will also make the dish sweeter.   Corn Flakes - These are an essential ingredient in Honey Joys, so if you have dietary restrictions to consider in regard to corn, my Chocolate Crackles would be a better option for you to consider eating instead of Honey Joys. It is imperative to the success of the Honey Joys that the muffin tins be prepared by lining them with paper cases or liners. The glaze is extremely sticky, and regardless of how well you grease the muffin tins, the cupcakes will still stick to the tins if the mixture is not placed inside of a paper case. Before you put the Honey Joys in the oven, you have the option of adding some 100s and 1000s (also known as sprinkles). Honey Joys are best kept in the refrigerator to maintain their shape and crunch, but if you live in an area with consistently cool temperatures, you can keep them at room temperature. Honey Joys should not be stored in the freezer.
